Rising Indonesian singer-songwriter Aruma teams up with Filipino pop juggernaut SB19 to deliver a moving rework of the 2021 hit 'MAPA' — now in Bahasa Indonesia. Rooted in gratitude for parents, 'MAPA' gets a fresh but faithful take with Aruma not only singing, but also helping adapt the lyrics to better flow in her native tongue.

“If my songs have always been about romantic love, this time I’m singing about love for parents by covering SB19’s single,” Aruma shares. “Not only that, I was also involved in rewriting the lyrics with the team from Sony Music to ensure the meaning still comes through, even when sung in Bahasa Indonesia.”

The idea for the collab came directly from SB19 and their label, Sony Music Philippines. “Because this is a tribute to the love of parents, I’m so happy to be part of such a deep and meaningful work,” Aruma adds. “Honestly, I’ve always wanted to release something personal and warm like this — I never thought the opportunity would come through a collaboration between two countries.”

Adapting the lyrics was no easy task. “It was a long process because I had to take time to tweak the lyrics so they’d feel just right — still nice to sing and easy on the ears — while making sure the emotion could still be felt by Indonesian music fans. I’m really grateful for the label and team who supported me through the entire process.”

Originally produced by PABLO, Jay Durias, and Simon Servida, the new version retains their touch, with PABLO also handling the final mix and master.

For Aruma, this track hits close to home. “For anyone listening to this song and maybe far away from their parents — whether for work, school, or any reason — I hope it reminds us to stay connected, because they are where we all began. For me, parents are the foundation. They planted the seeds of my love for music and have supported me unconditionally. Any success I achieve definitely has their hand in it.”

The collab also challenged Aruma to grow. “The challenge was matching the energy between me and SB19 so that our vocals could complement each other. I also had to sing the song honestly so that the deep message could be felt by everyone who listens. On the bright side, after performing a song with such a universal theme, I feel more open to exploring broader and more touching themes. Love isn’t just about romantic relationships — it can be for family, friends, even ourselves. Hopefully I can explore these themes more in the future. For now, enjoy 'MAPA', my collaboration with SB19 — and always remember your parents, wherever you are.”
