Bandwagon Mix #9: Gema (Syndicate, Order Records)

Bandwagon Mix #9: Gema (Syndicate, Order Records)

Every week, Bandwagon invites a guest to do a mix for us. Rather than a standard interview where the artist explains their influences, we figured it’d be more potent if you simply listened to the music. We provide the context, they provide the sounds.

Gema isn't just one of our favourite producers, he is straight up one of our favourite DJs in Singapore, Batam, or anywhere else in the world for that matter. Although he tends to shy away from the press, that hasn't stopped him from building quite the reputation for himself within the region, just based on the strength of his work alone. Case in point, ever since he debuted with Syndicate, he's been invited to play major shows such as ZoukOut and Laneway (easily Singapore's largest electronic and live music festivals respectively), sans fanfare. When you're this good, the limelight tends to follow you, not the other way around.

The man has been characteristically quiet lately, but he's still busy gigging (recently opening for Nosaj Thing at kyo, and spinning at Blu Jaz for several underground parties), and he's still busy running his own label, Order Records, during his free time. Nevertheless, we got impatient waiting for his next show, so we decided to invite him onto the Bandwagon Mix to craft a mix just for us (and you)! And boy, he sure didn't disappoint. This one's filled with sexy-smooth R&B and bass vibes, complemented by some K-Pop and Justin Bieber, alongside a few unnamed and unreleased exclusives.
