Seven-member vocal and dance powerhouse BE:FIRST return with a fresh spin on musical history. Leading their first-ever best album BE:ST the group reinterprets The Jackson 5’s timeless classic 'I Want You Back', transforming it into something unmistakably their own.
Produced by SKY-HI and Sunny, BE:FIRST’s version honours the original’s iconic funk bassline, rhythmic piano, and strings while reshaping it through a modern process. Live band recordings were captured via the legendary Neve 8068 analog console, then sampled and rebuilt with a hip-hop mindset. The chorus melody remains faithful to The Jackson 5, while new BE:FIRST lyrics and rap sections propel the track into 2025, maintaining the soul of the original while pushing it forward.
“We all carry deep respect for music history and culture,” SKY-HI shared. “Using this best-of as a moment to salute The Jackson 5—the prototype of the modern boy band—we hoped to let the greatness of this song speak to 2025. We also wanted to go further into why we keep making music as a boy band in a high-speed, disposable era. From the instruments to the recording chain, we obsessed over every detail.”
The accompanying music video captures the feeling of when music first took hold of your heart. It’s filled with easter eggs from BE:FIRST’s past eras accompanied by a volumetric video turning the members into 3D dancing figures. The result is a playful blend of future and nostalgia fitting for a best-of lead track.
Featuring a whopping 32 tracks that chart every major moment of their journey, BE:ST celebrates BE:FIRST’s evolution from debut to global stages. Fans can choose from several editions: the standard three-CD set featuring a non-stop mix by BANVOX; the LIVE edition with footage from their debut world tour, including New York; the MV edition with 24 music videos, including 'I Want You Back'; and the special BMSG Music Shop edition with behind-the-scenes content, fan-picked live performances, and exclusive collectibles.
Adding to the excitement, the track 'Stay Strong'—the theme for the film WIND BREAKER starring member Junon—is co-produced by SKY-HI and Yaffle. With weighty strings, guitars, and drums, it paints an expansive, experimental soundscape. Junon co-writes lyrics that echo the film’s message: true strength lies not only in victory, but in staying steadfast and protecting what matters most.
