A forthcoming documentary chronicling the prolific career of surf-rock pioneer Brian Wilson will arrive in cinemas and Video on Demand (VOD) on 19 November.
Directed by Brent Wilson, the film’s name was inspired by the Beach Boys’ song ‘Long Promised Road,’ which was co-written by Brian’s brother Carl Wilson.
In the film, Brian Wilson is seen cruising around Los Angeles with Rolling Stone editor and longtime friend, Jason Fine. As the pair drop by Wilson’s former haunts, the highly influential musician reminisces about the rise of the Beach Boys whilst reflecting upon his troubled past including his battle with drug abuse and mental illness.
Wilson has taken the liberty to record a new song entitled ‘Right Where I Belong’ specifically for this film but that's not all; the documentary will also be interspersed with excerpts of exclusive interviews from the likes of Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Nick Jonas, Linda Perry, Jim James, Gustavo Dudamel, fellow member of the Beach Boys Al Jadine, and more.
The premiere of Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road will coincide with Wilson’s new solo album At My Piano which will constitute a collection of reimagined classics from his extensive discography. Fans can certainly look forward to a more stripped-back rendition of their favourite tracks.
While you wait for Wilson's 11th studio album to drop, why not revisit some of the top tracks by the Beach Boys?
