Pop royalty BTS made their long-awaited return on 21 March with BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, a landmark live performance staged at Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square. Drawing a staggering crowd of 104,000 fans on-site and streaming globally via Netflix, the one-hour spectacle marked a defining moment not just for the group, but for pop culture at large.
Opening with a striking blend of traditional Korean instrumentation and modern production, the show immediately set a cinematic tone. As 50 dancers moved in formation atop Gyeongbokgung Palace, the stage was set for BTS’ entrance—announced with a simple but powerful, “Hello, Seoul! We’re back.”

The night kicked off with ‘Body to Body’, a track that reimagines the folk song ‘Arirang’, grounding the performance in cultural identity while delivering stadium-scale impact. From there, BTS powered through a 12-song setlist, including eight live debuts from their latest album ARIRANG—‘Hooligan’, ‘2.0’, ‘Aliens’, ‘FYA’, ‘SWIM’, ‘Like Animals’, and ‘NORMAL’ among them.
Visual storytelling played a huge role throughout the show. During ‘Aliens’, dynamic black-and-white graphics inspired by Korea’s geongongamri trigrams filled the LED screens, symbolising harmony between cosmic elements. Across performances like ‘NORMAL’, ‘Like Animals’, and ‘SWIM’, motifs inspired by the Taegeuk subtly reinforced the album’s themes of identity and roots.

Of course, it wasn’t all new material. Fan favourites ‘Butter’, ‘Dynamite’, and ‘MIC Drop’ turned the square into a full-blown singalong, injecting bursts of energy between the more introspective new tracks.
A standout moment came with ‘SWIM’, the group’s lead single. With controlled, deliberate choreography and a more mature emotional delivery, BTS showcased just how much they’ve evolved—balancing precision with vulnerability.

As the night drew to a close, RM addressed the crowd with a heartfelt promise: “No matter what happens, we promise to keep swimming together.” The sentiment carried into the final performances of ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Mikrokosmos’, where glowing LED cubes transformed into a galaxy of stars across Gwanghwamun, as thousands of voices sang in unison.
Beyond the spectacle, the performance also spotlighted Korea’s cultural heritage, blending historic landmarks with cutting-edge production for a global audience.

The comeback doesn’t stop here. BTS will premiere their documentary BTS: The Return on 27 March, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their journey back. Following the release of ARIRANG, which set a new Apple Music record for the most-streamed pop group album in its first day, the group is also gearing up for their massive BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’, spanning 34 regions and 82 shows.
