Thailand’s music scene is gearing up for a massive global takeover. The Creative Economy Agency (CEA) has officially continued its Music Exchange initiative — now in its third year — with a clear goal: bring Thai artists to the world stage and tap into the booming music tourism wave.

At least 22 Thai acts have already been selected across two rounds, including BUS because of you i shine, MILLI, mindfreakkk, pami, SIN (Singular), Tilly Birds, WHISPERS, and WIM, with more expected to join as applications remain open until 16 May.

These artists are set to perform at over 20 international music festivals across major markets like the United States, Mexico, India, China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Philippines — a clear sign that Thai music is scaling up its global ambitions.

The timing couldn’t be better. Asia is quickly becoming a hotspot for music tourism, with the market projected to hit US$19.9 billion and account for 21.8% of the global share.

From Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival to Thailand’s Big Mountain Music Festival and Bangkok Music City, festivals across the region are no longer just about live shows — they’re becoming key business platforms driving collaborations, touring circuits, and cross-border fanbases.

CEA Director Dr. Chakrit Pichayangkoon highlighted how this shift positions Asia — and Thailand — at the centre of the global music conversation, with festivals acting as gateways for artists to expand internationally.

Music Exchange 2026 builds on the success of previous editions, which supported 95 Thai artists across 64 festivals in 17 markets, reaching over 54.7 million audiences worldwide.

This year, the strategy is twofold:

  • PUSH: Financial support to send Thai artists overseas
  • PULL: Business matching with global festival organisers, scouts, and agencies

The goal? Not just performances, but long-term partnerships — from touring opportunities to production collaborations.

Thailand’s music industry is also on a steady rise, ranking 29th globally with a market value exceeding 3.5 billion baht.

With artists like MILLI already making waves internationally and bands like Tilly Birds building strong regional fanbases, initiatives like Music Exchange are accelerating what many fans already feel — Thai music is ready for the world stage.
