Chilli Beans. are on a roll. Following the release of their latest EP the outside wind on 25 June, the genre-fluid Japanese trio return with a heartfelt new digital single, ‘Himawari ひまわり’.
The track serves as the ending theme for the reboot of Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube (地獄先生ぬ~べ~), the supernatural anime classic that made waves across Southeast Asia in the ’90s. The beloved series returns to screens on 2 July, airing weekly on TV Asahi’s 24-station national network.
‘Himawari’ — which translates to “sunflower” — is a gentle, nostalgic slow-burn inspired by school life and the emotional bond between teacher and student. Written, composed, and arranged by Chilli Beans. themselves, the song captures the quiet beauty of twilight hallways, echoing bells, and unspoken strength.
“We pictured the feeling of walking home at sunset,” the band shares. “The strength of the teacher is in the sound, and the lyrics express the student’s quiet trust. It’s a new sound for us, and we’re proud to contribute to Nube’s iconic world.”
Blending warm melodies with emotional depth, Chilli Beans. prove once again they’re masters of crafting songs that linger — and ‘Himawari’ is one that’s sure to bloom in listeners’ hearts.
