Filipino singer-songwriter dwta has dropped ‘Kung Ikaw Ay Masaya’, a melancholic folk-pop track from the upcoming film Flower Girl. Released under Sony Music Entertainment, the song reimagines a familiar Filipino nursery rhyme into a haunting tale of false hopes and emotional limbo.
The song is featured in Flower Girl, a comedy-drama starring Sue Ramirez and directed by Fatrick Tabada. The film follows Ena, a woman navigating her messy path to self-worth. Tabada calls the track “a grounding force” for Ena’s character — a reminder of her flawed but human journey.
“It’s not the usual love story you see in movies,” dwta shares. “The original rhyme is for kids, but we gave it a serious feel — just like the film takes something familiar and makes it real.”
Produced by Brian Lotho, the track keeps it intimate with just violin, guitar, and keyboard. It plays during a key scene in Ena’s story, offering a quiet emotional climax.
dwta has made a name turning childhood songs into grown-up heartbreak — from ‘Sampung Mga Daliri’ with SB19’s Justin to ‘Nasusunog (Pants On Fire)’. “Even the simplest songs can mean more, depending on how you look at them,” she says.
