MATÉO is bringing back the feels of classic harana with his latest single, a heartfelt revival of ‘Bato Sa Buhangin’, out now via Korean label Abyss Company.
Known for his laid-back style and emotionally resonant songwriting, the singer-songwriter — real name Matthew Ong — continues his mission to reintroduce modern kundiman to a new generation. Originally made famous by Cinderella in the ‘70s, ‘Bato Sa Buhangin’ holds a special place in MATÉO’s heart.
He shares, “Let’s leave love out of the fast-paced and disposable. I hope this message about love—the kind that is sure, mabagal, and lasting—lives on.”
This latest release also marks his first as an officially signed artist under Abyss Company, joining a star-studded roster that includes Sunmi, MeloMance, and Sandara Park. The expansion of the K-entertainment label into the Philippines spotlights MATÉO as a key figure in bridging cultures and keeping Filipino music traditions alive on a global stage.
Inspired by the likes of Rey Valera, Bruno Major, and Unique Salonga, MATÉO blends nostalgic OPM with modern flair — a sound that has earned him over 1.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
