Singapore’s independent cinema scene is getting a new lease of life with Filmhouse, a new arthouse venue set to open at the former home of The Projector at Golden Mile Tower.

The new cinema takes over the three-screen space previously occupied by The Projector, which ceased operations last August after nearly a decade as one of Singapore’s most recognisable indie film hubs. Filmhouse is led by members of The Projector’s former team, including Sharon Tan, who steps into the role of general manager.

Filmhouse is expected to soft open in late January or early February, with plans to retain much of the venue’s original character. The Green Room will be upgraded with a 4K projector, while the Redrum and Blue Room will continue operating with 2K projection. Select murals and hall names will also remain as a nod to the space’s legacy.

Early programming is set to spotlight international and independent titles, including Sentimental Value, Hamnet, and Rental Family. At launch, Filmhouse will operate with a snack bar and soft drinks, with a licensed bar still under consideration.

With its arrival, Filmhouse aims to continue supporting Singapore’s arthouse film culture, offering cinephiles a familiar yet refreshed space to gather, watch, and discover cinema beyond the mainstream.
