As far as we go for Asian festivals, the organizers behind Clockenflap have stepped up progressively over the years, and they've delivered what's arguably the best festival line-up in Asia this year. Sure, there was Foo Fighters at Fuji Rock Fest in Japan, or St. Vincent headlining a stellar Laneway Festival Singapore, but it was truly hard to beat a three-day megafest where each headliner (sometimes more than one each night) was more than capable to end the night off spectacularly.

We were able to see L.A. beat master Flying Lotus deliver his awe-inspiring Layer 3 show on its first night, while shoegaze legends Ride followed immediately with an overpowering wall of sound — all happening while festival-goers embraced the windy nighttime weather of Hong Kong, which was a welcome respite after an arduous few months of striking heat.

The second night forced festival-goers to choose between garage-rock revivalists The Libertines and hip-hop figure A$AP Rocky, the former delivering a blistering 80 minutes of unadulterated rock anthems, while Rocky — with his A$AP Mob in tow — treated fans to an audacious stage show, complete with a 50s-styled diner and arcade game machines placed onstage to feed the rapper's predilections for shrouding himself in decade-defining aesthetics.

The last night was ended powerfully with a soaring performance by electronic pop legends New Order, who were fresh off the release of their latest album Music Complete. With a set list balancing new tracks with familiar hits, it was a real treat for everyone — especially those who missed the group when they last touched Asia in 2012, with a headlining show in Singapore.
