Ethereal Recurrence marks a bold new chapter for renaivé, the instrumental solo project helmed by Bandung-based multi-instrumentalist Yana Setya N.

Known for his experimental streak across a trilogy of genre-blending EPs i, ii, and iii, Yana now leans into a fully conceptual approach—both musically and narratively. Ethereal Recurrence offers a five-track journey through the human life cycle, inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy of eternal recurrence.

The EP blends intricate math-rock foundations with dreamy flourishes of “petalcore” or botanica music. Think: glitchy guitar runs, off-kilter grooves, and an unexpected emotional lightness, all wrapped in tight arrangements.

“This is the first instrumental math-rock EP I’ve worked on seriously,” Yana shares. “I even brought in friends to help with recording and artwork—something I’ve never done before in any of my solo projects, not even Gracehowl.”

The tracklist mirrors a life’s passage—from the birthlike beginnings of ‘Constellate’, the youthful spirit in ‘Ardor’, to the epiphany in ‘7-Minute Candle’, culminating in death and rebirth with ‘...and gratitude unfolds by itself’.

It’s introspective without being heavy, philosophical yet accessible—perfect for fans of bands like toe, tricot, or LITE looking for something fresh from Southeast Asia’s math-rock scene.
