The internet superstar behind Alan’s Universe is teaming up with Netflix and HYBE America to launch a brand-new scripted series about a misfit crew of pop idol hopefuls. Think high school dreams, big-stage ambition, and serious K-drama vibes.
In the untitled series, a group of rejected trainees come together at an elite arts academy to form a co-ed pop band — one that will debut original music alongside the show. Yes, the cast will actually become a music group IRL. And with HYBE’s idol training expertise (home to BTS and KATSEYE) plus Chow’s massive fanbase and creator chops, this might just be the next breakout pop act born on screen.
“Our mission is to set a new standard for storytelling — designed to inspire creativity, spark joy, and impart timeless life lessons,” Chow says.
The creator-actor-producer-director-writer (yes, he wears all the hats) has built an empire from short-form content, with over 130 million followers and upwards of 1.5 billion monthly views across platforms. Chow’s Alan’s Universe, a comedic anthology inspired by Asian-American teen life, has made him the most-watched YouTube Shorts creator globally.
This next move marks a major level-up — and Chow’s first global scripted franchise. He’ll be executive producing the series with James Shin (HYBE America President of Film & TV) and Jingu Jang (HYBE America AU President and former BIGHIT MUSIC VP).
The show aims to reimagine the pop idol story for a new generation, merging Netflix’s global storytelling platform, HYBE’s industry power, and Chow’s viral instincts.
“With a proven visionary like Alan… we’re setting out to produce a groundbreaking series that expands audiences, possibilities, and how fandom is built from day one,” Shin shares.
Stay tuned — this won’t be just another idol drama. This is the beginning of a culture-shaping music franchise in the making. Keep an eye on TUDUM.COM for the official title and release date.
