Record Store Day (RSD) hits this weekend and even in Singapore, there’s gonna be a flurry of activity around town. From in-store performances to exclusive releases, RSD has always been an event to check out for vinyl and music enthusiasts. So prep up for Saturday, here are some suggestions for what to do tomorrow around town.
Vinylicious RSD Sale
Vinylicious will be stocking heaps of RSD exclusive releases so get ready to put aside some time (and money) to browse through the collection. This year's RSD loot includes the Lego Movie OST, White Stripes' Get Behind Me Satan, and the reissue of Frank Sinatra's Songs For Young Lovers. RSD is also a great way to meet other vinyl collectors so be nice, say hi, and compare your collection of course.
HEAR Records: Que Escucha!
If you fancy yourself a little dip into a day of local music, HEAR Records has got you covered, celebrating the release of two local albums — one new and one landmark release, repackaged and reissued. Folk group Hanging Up the Moon will be releasing their album early just for Singaporean vinyl collectors, with limited signed copies available at HEAR. Meanwhile, post-metal band I Am David Sparkle will be handling collection of their debut EP Apocalypse of Your Heart while letting fans preview the new record Art is Blood, one that we’re eagerly waiting for as well. Topped off with a live in-house performance by Riot !n Magenta, we can’t imagine a better way to unwind after some intense RSD shopping.
Press the right buttons and go indie disco pogo on Record Store Day over at Tapow Bar, Ann Siang Hill. A joint collaboration by music/art event organisers Heliotropika and independent record store Straits Records, their RSD celebrations include a vinyl/CD swap, live music by The Zozi and more, DJ sets and more activities in the store!
#vinyloftheday: A Side B Side
Joining in the RSD celebrations is the #vinyloftheday team who will be setting up camp at the Rdio HQ. Enjoy the day with a specially curated audio journey with the lineup of DJs (which includes our very own editor Daniel Peters). There will also be a vinyl swap, documentary screening, and a special live performance by In Each Hand A Cutlass.
