Bands from various tertiary institutions to battle it out at the DBS Campus Band Challenge

As part of the DBS Marina Regatta 2019, six bands from local tertiary institutions will be battling it out at the DBS Campus Band Challenge. Happening over the weekend of 1 - 2 June, from 7pm to 9pm, at The Promontory @ Marina Bay, each night will see three bands performing in hopes of winning prize money for the music club that they represent. 

The People’s Choice Award will take into account the loudest cheers of the night measured through a “Sound-O-Meter”. The band which encourages the loudest cheers walks away with $1,000 prize money. There’s also a Judges’ Choice Award where judges from DBS and Bandwagon will decide who gets the coveted prize of $1,500.

Each of the competing bands represent one of six institutions – Republic Polytechnic (RP), Nanyang Technological University (NTU)Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College EastSingapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), National University of Singapore (NUS), and Singapore Management University (SMU)

Below are the six bands that will be competing at the DBS Campus Band challenge this weekend.

Saturday, 1 June

Waiting For Joe (RP)

Formed by a diverse group of musicians, Waiting For Joe is a band that consists of members from the Replug music club in Republic Polytechnic. Performing varied genres from soul and blues to pop, the band explores new ground and enjoys showcasing its groovy tunes to the masses.

Pushplay (NTU)

Pushplay is a group of music-loving individuals that came together to pursue their passion during their time in NTU. They love to perform and bring music into the lives of fellow students and friends. The band does its best to bring good music to listeners, and, at the same time, have fun performing together as a unit.

Trebles (ITE East)

Trebles started in 2018, consisting of only 3 members. The band just started writing its first original music this year. It is made up of Kent, Jasper, and Anna Tricia, three talented multi-instrumentalists ready to show the world what they've got. Trebles is part of the ITE College East's East Dynamics music club.

Spacecrumbs (SUTD)

Spacecrumbs claim to be the very first orbital rock band, blending sounds from the Universe's most popular genres like inter-dimensional alternative and post-galactic wave. After an emergency crash landing on Earth, they discovered and fell in love with Earth's music scene and a local delicacy called "ethanol".

Maneloren (NUS)

Maneloren is a Singaporean alternative/indie rock project conceived in 2018. Drawing influence from bands such as Foals, Foo Fighters, and Biffy Clyro, this project strives to create a soundscape that combines lush indie textures and rocking riffs, culminating in music that incorporates a wide range of sonic flavours.

SIVXN (SMU) 

SIVXN comprises of like-minded, passionate individuals with great chemistry and enthusiasm for making music. SIVXN puts its unique twist to fan favourites from the new millennium, so you’ll definitely find yourself singing and grooving along to SIVXN’s renditions. Expect a plethora of zeal, feels and vibes!

DBS Marina Regatta 2019 will be happening from Friday to Sunday, 31 May to 2 June, at The Promontory @ Marina Bay. DBS Campus Band Challenge will be happening from 7pm to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday. For more information on DBS Marina Regatta, click here.
