Bandwagon x Spotify Singapore: Gig Picks July 2014

ESTIMATED

It's getting harder to keep track of the barrage of live music and choice gigs to attend these days, and that's why we've got our trusty gig finder! It's getting even harder to prep yourselves up for the shows, and that's why we've teamed up with Spotify to bring you a monthly playlist dedicated to upcoming gig picks in Singapore, so you won't have any excuse not to know the setlist.

We'll be updating the playlist monthly, so make sure you subscribe to it - and while you're at it, why not follow us on our official Spotify account? Click on the headings for more gig details and ticketing info.

BANDWAGON TV

Original Sundays | 6, 13, 20, 27 July

Like Baybeats and Identite, Original Sundays started out as an initiative by Red Kite to provide a platform for local artists to perform and to encourage Singaporeans to support the local music industry. Original Sundays return in its 3rd instalment to Beer Market this July with a month-long series featuring the hottest young acts in Singapore including the likes of Gentle Bones, Stopgap, Bravepaper and many more. Best part of all - entry is free.

Spartak: The Five Points Tour | 12 July

Things will get certifiably cerebral come July 12th at The Lithe Paralogue Studio when Australian electronic/experimental outfit Spartak returns here as part of their tour promoting their latest release Five Points. Thanks to the tireless folks at Dunce (they did a little event called 100 Bands Festival), it looks like it'll be an evening of challenging electronic soundscapes with fellow sonic futurists a/b (Adam Adhiyatma + Bani Haykal), .gif and the fully decked out Intriguant band.

Vader Live In Singapore | 14 July

No, not the Star Wars villain. We're talking about Vader, one of the most prolific death metal bands in the world, playing in Singapore for the first time ever thanks to Street Noise Productions! Catch the polish quintet live at The Substation come July 14 in a night of visceral growls and savage blastbeats together with special guests Ossuary.

Russian Circles Live In Singapore | 20 July

Chicago's post-metal icons Russian Circles return to Singapore for another evening of blistering soundscapes! Appearing for the third time round thanks to KittyWu Records, the trio now come armed with their latest (and greatest) record Memorial, a dark epic filled with even more beastly layers of thick basslines, menacing riffs and ominous drums. Zouk (#savezouk!) plays host to the show, so you know you're in for a very good sonic expedition.

The 1975 Live In Singapore | 22 July

They just played at the Pyramid Stage at mega festival of festivals, Glastonbury and are now heading for Singapore real soon. These androgynous blouse-shirt wearing, floppy fringe sporting indie rockers really know how to do indie anthems and singalong crowds. Their debut album itself has produced multiple hit singles in a short time, and is hailed as a love letter to youth, played out in bold and brash technicolour.

Bombay Bicycle Club Live In Singapore | 29 July

This year Bombay Bicycle Club put out a really great album so there's no surprise that we're all very excited about their return to Singapore. Fresh from the festival circuit, Bombay returns to the *SCAPE stage (thanks to Symmetry Entertainment) where we'll no doubt be dancing to their delightful, worldly, dance-y tunes like "Feel", "Carry Me" and "Shuffle". If you're wondering where they got that infectious opening to "Feel", here's some trivia...

Slowdive Live In Singapore | 31 July

Just when we thought we'd never get to see these recently reunited shoegaze legends live, Symmetry Entertainment takes us by surprise by bringing Slowdive all the way to *Scape in their only Southeast-Asian headlining show! Catch this massively influential band this 31st July as they run through classic songs from their classic records Just For A Day, Souvlaki and Pygmalion.
