Being stuck in rush hour traffic is the worst, especially on the day when you’re already at the end of your wits, itching to go out with friends to relax or actually just get some rest without thinking of work the following day. Yes, Thursdays can indeed be more of a struggle than any other day of the week.
But Johnnie Walker sees this day differently. In fact, their Thursday nights promise a chill vibe, great drinks and your favorite musician playing live — for free.
Since moving the Johnnie Walker House to Poblacion early this year, the fourth day of the workweek has been dubbed Thursday Tunes, a nod to the fine tunes brought about by some of the coolest acts in the local music scene. Starting 9:00 PM, those who choose to avoid the traffic are encouraged to drop by and check out the musicians spanning from different genres.
Past performers include Bea Lorenzo, Six the Northstar, bedspacer, Tandems ’91, BP Valenzuela, Diego Castillo, Tamara, Coeli, Dante & Amigo with the Lowkeys (whose newest track is pretty hot), Malana and MonoStereo. Lola Amour, Squid 9, and Tarsius also played during our very own Thursday birthday party there. The second to the last Thursday Tunes celebrated world music with Dayaw, Anima Tierra and Diego Mapa.
May 9 marks the last Thursday Tunes, which will be all about hip-hop, featuring food rapper Pure Mind Quiet Heart and MC and poet Peaceful Gemini. MonoStereo returns to perform DJ sets for the night.
A relaxing mood, cold whiskey cocktails in hand, and your favorite jam live — there is no more perfect way to end a Thursday for one last time before the bar closes and moves to a new home on May 10. Grab a friend and visit today!
