#InternetShutDown and "JIMIN JIMIN" trend on Twitter following Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Oculus outages

In the early hours of Tuesday morning (10/05, PHT), Facebook and its many other supported platforms like Instagram, Whatsapp, Messenger, and Oculus faced major outages.

According to reports, users were receiving error messages on Facebook before the platform was completely taken down. The outage lasted for five hours, taking out one of the Internet's most used social platforms.

Facebook did not confirm a definitive cause for the outage, but representatives from the social platform revealed to the New York Times that it may have been an issue with Facebook's servers, which did not allow users to connect to its apps. This comes as Facebook's latest outage following 2019 when all its services were affected by a technical error for 24 hours.

In the advent of Facebook's malfunction, many users – including Facebook and Instagram itself – moved to Twitter, spawning the trending hashtag #InternetShutDown and a wave of hilarious memes, plus a "JIMIN JIMIN" trending topic. Check out some of them below.

Facebook, along with its affiliated apps have now been restored.
