Local singer-songwriter Fym Summer has been handed the opportunity of a lifetime.
Fym Summer is a Singaporean singer-songwriter, last featured on NOISE Singapore 2015, an initiative supported by The National Arts Council. Her latest release is the Luna EP in 2017, which features her signature acoustic pop sound, delivered with the delicacy and grace that has since been a highlight of all her live performances.
Fym has been invited to perform at the world-renowned SXSW (South By Southwest) festival in Austin, Texas this coming March. But with a prestigious slot comes with the baggage of costly travel. Fym is currently running a fundraising page to help make the mini-tour a reality, with all funds going to accommodation, equipment rental and other costs incurred by flying out her team to the US.
The entire trip will cost an estimated USD$16,000 (S$21,255) for the projected duration of 9-18 March. Yeah, we're choking on those numbers too. Given the situation, Fym is reaching out to the local community of music lovers who want nothing more but to see a homebred musician strike it out in the US. “Please help bring my music to the international stage," she says in her campaign video. "I hope to make the Singapore music scene proud."
Donations go by denominations of USD$15, $30, $80 and $800 for personalized messages, songwriting sessions and the chance for a private acoustic performance by Fym in return. Additionally, you have the choice of putting in your own donation amount.
Other Singaporean artists who've performed at SXSW include Inch Chua, I Am David Sparkle (whose journey to Austin resulted in the documentary film Ignore All Detour Signs), The Great Spy Experiment and Linying.
