Lykke Li Out, Jon Hopkins In for Laneway Festival 2015

ESTIMATED

Sudden news but it's good or bad depending on where you stand. We're less than 20 days away from this year's Laneway Festival instalment but they've made a pretty surprising announcement that sees one important addition to the line-up and a cancellation of a major artist.

UK's Jon Hopkins has been added to the line-up, not long after his DJ set here last November, itself a replacement to his slot at the cancelled Hostess Weekender show. The enigmatic electronic musician is best-known for his 2013 record Immunity, a stunning and dynamic collection of tracks that was heralded as one of the best albums that year by many critics and fans. He shared in an interview with us about his journey jumping into underground stardom and fringing on mainstream success with Coldplay.

However, it was also announced that Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li has pulled out of the festival's run. She released a message to her fans: “I'm incredibly sorry to announce that I’m no longer able to play in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore for Laneway Festival. It’s been a long time coming, but unfortunately tour life has caught up with me, and it’s been recommended that I take a break. I’m devastated, but I know I will return. Thank you for all the support, and I sincerely hope I can make it up to you at a later date”.

Laneway Festival, fortunately, still carries on with a strong 19-artist lineup on 24 January. You can get tickets at SISTIC or eventCliQue.
