December offers a musical trip in Singapore cinemas — here are the movies you should catch

The holiday season has begun and there's no better way to spend some time before the festivities with a healthy dose of cinema.

With the climate of Hollywood embracing the different facets of music — from the eclectic, 70's-leaning soundtracks of recent Marvel movies to the successes of musicals like La La Land and Sing Street, not to mention the chaotic synchronicity of Baby Driver — we thought it would be fitting to highlight some of the films screening in Singaporean theatres this month.

Coco

Coco follows the story of 12-year-old Miguel who gets sucked into the land of the deal while his town prepares for the annual Dia de los Muertos traditions. He enlists the help of his late great-great-grandfather to get back to his family, as an epic musical journey ensues, igniting Miguel's love for music in a town where such ambitions are frowned upon.

BANDWAGON TV

Disney-Pixar's Coco is showing now in all cinemas across the country.

Saturday Night Fever

This disco-era hit follows the story of Tony Monero (John Travolta) as he uses dancing to escape from the woes of reality every weekend. Set to a soundtrack that made stars out of the Bee Gees, this movie is a time capsule ripe for a revisit as The Projector brings it back for a one-time screening.

The 1977 classic film will be making a one show only return to The Projector on 9th Dec at 8.30PM.

Pitch Perfect 3

Pitch Perfect 3 continues in the footsteps of its two predecessors, with acapella versions of the latest radio hits, along with several classic ballads. In the final installment of the franchise, the girls band together for one final hurrah as chaos and, like every instalment of the highly successful film franchise, hilarity ensues.

Pitch Perfect 3 will be screened in all major cinemas on 21st Dec.

The Greatest Showman

The Greatest Showman features an ensemble cast of Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Willams, Zendaya and more in this original biographical musical drama on P.T Barnum and how he established his world-famous Barnum & Bailey Circus empire.

The Greatest Showman opens at all major cinemas nationwide on 28 Dec.

The Sound Of Music (1965)

Perhaps one of the most iconic musicals of our time, The Sound Of Music will be returning to the big screen for a one-day-only run at The Projector. Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Richard Hadyn and Eleanor Parker star in this award-winning musical, which will be a sure-fire spectacle on a big screen.

The Sound Of Music will be screening at The Projector on 29 Dec at 8:30PM.
