Stand With Marawi: Temperamental Brats and Moonleaf Tea Shop team up for a donation drive

It's been a tough few days for the world this week - the senseless bombing of the Ariana Grande concert, several explosions in Jakarta, a capsized boat filled with migrants seeking refuge from Libya and something much closer to home, the ongoing fire fight in the city of Marawi which has left hundreds of our countrymen homeless. (There's also the alarming declaration of Martial Law for the entire Mindanao. That's for another story, but do listen to this song.)

Our friends, the Temperamental Brats and Moonleaf Tea Shop have teamed up for a donation drive to help out our brothers and sisters affected by the events in Marawi.

The benefit gig is happening on May 27 at Moonleaf Tea Shop on Maginhawa St., UP Teacher's Village from 4 PM to 10 PM and will have performances by BLKD, calix, skinxbones, Bandang Tubaw, Charles Dumaraos, Belle Castillo, and BP Valenzuela. The stage will host an open mic right after the live sets.

For donations in kind, please bring:

canned chicken, fish or beef (no sausage, spam, maling, luncheon meat, or anything with pork - let's keep it halal)

bottled water

medicine

blankets

modest clothes

Cash donations in any amount are also accepted.

Proceeds will go to Kaya Natin!, a project by the Office of the Vice-President and ArtRelief Mobile Kitchen, who mobilized halal cooks to help feed the evacuees.

In these tumultuous times when it's easy to feel helpless or insignificant, the best we can do is remind ourselves that there is always something we can do. Whether it may be big or small, extending our hearts through solidarity, giving, and prayer will go a long way in helping Marawi surpass this ordeal. We need to be wary and vigilant, not just for ourselves but for others as well. Let this be an opportunity for us to come as one and prove that together, we are stronger and braver than a tough few days.
