A Date With Friends, a series celebrating Singapore's rock and pop music heritage, will make its glorious return this year.
More than ever, Esplanade has prepared a list of eclectic performances that range from a Getai Fun Night to a disco-themed event at the Outdoor Theatre itself.
For the latter, the stage will be specially extended into a dance floor for the audience.
With a band that boasts Joe Chandran, former vocalist of 60s rock band The X-periment, along with ensemble Dimension5, the event is aptly titled Blame It On The Boogie, and will feature a repertoire of songs by ABBA, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and more. Basically, all the club hits from back in the day.
Taking place as the closer to the weekend on November 6th — 7.15 to 8.30pm with Dimension5, and 9 to 10.15pm with Joe Chandran.
There will also be a night of getai music — with three time-slots between 7 to 10.15pm on November 3rd & 4th, a celebration of the greatest pop yeh yeh hits with Hyrul & The Hyperventilates, and a special showcase by former Talentime winner Peter Chua. Here's a brief history of pop yeh yeh and why it matters.
Find out more info on Esplanade's official site, but this weekend would be the perfect time for some musical heritage education.
