Biography

Nutty Rudy was fortunate enough to have a cool brother, Syed, who led him to the world of Mento, Calypso, Ska, Reggae and Dub at an early age. This further led him into the whole Rudebuoy subculture when he was a teenager. Hanging out at the now closed Tower Records in Pacific Plaza, Nutty Rudy got to sample new arrivals of Ska and Reggae, which further expanded his music vocab. He soon started going after first pressings and limited edition series, and harder to find vinyls from the vault of Attack, Punch and Ska Beat labels. For Nutty Rudy, the crackle and the odd hisses of playing vinyl is a feeling second only to sex! Major influences include Lord Tanamo, Alton Ellis and of course Ken Boothe. Now part of The SkaMerlions of Singapore Soul Club and Gimme Shelter... This 4th of July, expect a lively, roots rockin' set of Ska, Reggae and Bluebeat, guaranteed to get the dancefloor moving.
