Beethoven Heroic Years Concert Series

Join us at our formal Evening Concert as we discover three works that epitomize the new heroic period of Beethoven: the intimate and highly charged String Quartet in f minor Op. 95 ‘Serioso’; the last of his Sonatas for Piano and Violin Op. 96 dedicated to his only composition student and an important patron, Archduke Rudolph Rainier of Austria; and the breathtaking Piano Trio Op. 97 ‘Archduke’ which repeat premiere saw the last time Beethoven ever appeared in public again on the piano.

Date & time: 28 May 2017, 7:30pm
Venue: Victoria Concert Hall

For an even more expansive journey, join violist Hsin-Yun Huang and pianist Luca Buratto in an intimate afternoon 60 minutes Sharing Recital session, where they observe Beethoven’s push on the limitations of the classical form in parallel with 20th century trailblazer Ligeti’s experimentation on rhythm -- through Beethoven’s iconic ‘Appassionata’ Sonata (from his Heroic period); his Cello Sonata Op. 102 No. 2 (marking the start of his Late Years); Ligeti’s études for Solo Piano; and his Solo Viola Sonata.
