Café 21 Living Room – Gareth Fernandez, Jawn and Maricelle

Join singer-songwriters Gareth, Jon and Maricelle as the trio come together for the first time to regale you with songs that each of them has written and some reinterpreted covers, in an evening of infectiously good fun. After two sold-out EP launches and appearances at Music Matters Live, Mosaic Music Festival and Celebrate SG50, Gareth Fernandez returns to Esplanade with more unreleased originals and some covers. Gareth was Lush 99.5FM's artist of the Month in November 2014, and his debut EP is being played regularly on local airwaves as well as in Australia. TimeOut Singapore dubs him a "dapper up-and-comer", JUICE magazine describes him as "possessing a voice as sharp as his suits" and TODAY Online mentions that Gareth "has the potential to be one of our best singers ever". One third of The Huckleberry Friends, Jon is no stranger to the local music scene. Since his debut in the Timbre-Noise Singapore Songwriting Competition, Jon has achieved much, including placing finalist in 987 FM’s The Next Big Thing and winning The New Paper Loudr.sg Competition. He is mentored by 53A’s Sara Wee in the NOISE Singapore Music Mentorship programme. With well-received performances at Timbre, Esplanade, The Black Café, Hood Bar, *SCAPE, Marina Bay Sands, and the Padang, amongst others, Jon has made a name for himself as a talented and versatile songwriter whose songs are filled with haunting melodies, rich, mellow vocals, careful instrumentation, and profound lyrics. Maricelle Wong is an aspiring singer-songwriter and guitarist who dreams about playing her music to people and making their days better by filling the silences and bringing smiles. She is influenced by a myriad of genres including pop, indie, and electronic dance music. She has performed original showcases at Esplanade, NUS UCC and Red Dot Museum, and has done acoustic covers in TAB bar and Blujaz cafe. She started writing songs a few years back under the NAC NOISE mentorship programme, mentored by Kevin Matthews. This year, she co-wrote the song for the Mediacorp talent show Final One for runner-up Shaun Jansen, was a finalist in the NEA ECO songwriting competition, and completed the Ocean Butterflies Songwriting and arrangement MDA and WDA course.
