The SingJazz Club & Showtime Jazz Present EFG Bank Spotlight Series: Jakob Dinesen & Jeremy Monteiro Trio Jakob Dinesen (sax) Jeremy Monteiro (keys) Soh Wen Ming (drums) Ben Poh (bass) 19 March 2016, Saturday Doors 9:00PM Ticketing: Limited Early Bird S$25.00 + booking fee JAKOB DINESEN: If Danish jazz has one genuine playboy, it must be 46-year old Jakob Dinesen – with a thick line under play. He and his sax and his good looks have romped around most of the world: Europe, Africa, Cuba, Thailand, USA, Japan and Australia. He has received just about every award a Danish musician can get – Grammys and soloist awards. When he saunters on stage, there are always a few moments of total concentration; then a crisp, searching sound emerges from the bell of his sax before starting up. Perhaps jumping straight into an improvisation, perhaps a loyal interpretation of whatever tune is on the agenda. Jakob Dinesen is one of the most prominent and active musicians in Danish jazz – periodically almost hyperactive, horn always within reach, and always in demand. He has been characterized as an emotional and virtuosic musician and a powerful conveyor of the great tenor jazz tradition. His expression is both progressive and deeply rooted in tradition, with one leg comfortably resting in swing, bebop, and one in something more “here-and-now-modern”. The big difference is his open mind!. JEREMY MONTEIRO: Jeremy Monteiro is a jazz pianist, singer, composer and music educator. He has performed and won critical acclaim in many parts of the world; in Singapore, he has been dubbed "Singapore's King of Swing" by the local press. On 8 October 2002, Monteiro was conferred the Cultural Medallion in recognition of his artistic excellence and contributions. He was the first jazz musician to achieve this honour. On 28 November 2003, Monteiro was conferred the "Lifting Up The World with a Oneness-Heart" lifetime achievement Award by Sri Chinmoy, who is the leader of the interfaith Peace Meditation at the UN (since 1970) and also the leader of the International Peace Centre. Monteiro has a total of 21 albums to his credit. He has performed and/or recorded with the likes of James Moody, Michael Brecker, Lee Ritenour, Herbie Mann, Paulinho DaCosta, Ernie Watts, Charlie Haden and Simon & Garfunkel, to name a few. info & reservations +65 84813034 101 Jalan Sultan #02-00 | The Sultan Hotel | Singapore singjazzclub.com | facebook.com/singjazzclub | twitter.com/singjazzclub | instagram.com/singjazzclub Terms & Conditions: - No refunds or exchanges allowed. - Minimum age for admission: 18 years of age - Dress Code: Smart Casual.
