Good Times: The HidZ FM Edition Vol. 2

About two years ago, we got our fave music journo Hidzir Junaini to curate the lineup. It was off the hook, and so we decided to do it again this Friday. Here's what Hidzmaster J had to say about his picks: Gema (Syndicate / Order Records) "As a live performer, Gema's pretty much Batam's incarnation of James Blake - restrained, sophisticated and full of sexy downtempo vibes. But as a DJ, the Echo Prince is the life of the party. Whether he's grooving with radio-friendly R&B or going hard with physical, underground bass stompers, Gema's sets have become like unicorns - magical and super rare." William J (Darker Than Wax) "He's been around the block, and whether he's residing at Velvet Underground or Canvas, William J has been pushing the gritty side of UK rave for the floor. From bass house to grime to trap, the Darker Than Wax vet never fails to find the fine line between crowd pleasing and boundary pushing." Intriguant (Syndicate) "Crazy prolific and incredibly versatile, Intriguant can be found making minimalist, downtempo tunes as a producer, working up a frenzy as a part of soul-funk band The Good Life Project, running the boards behind the scenes at Lush 99.5 FM, and oh yeah, he somehow also finds time to be known as one of Singapore's finest hip-hop and house DJs. Catch him working the decks before he scales back his insane schedule to prep for Laneway next year." Young Spice "One of the dopest local production duos out there right now, Young Spice puts out a ton of originals on their SoundCloud and Bandcamp if you're willing to do the digging. They've recently made a name with their Stones Throw-esque instrumental hip-hop beats, but the pair have also been releasing lots of jazzy house tunes under the radar. Leon the Professional, who's one half of the duo, aims to represent that nostalgic dance sound this Friday." Entry is just $5 at the door, drinks are cheap, and you can wear whatever you want. We think this one's going to be big - see you on Friday!
