Jazz in July: Nicole Duffell and Andrew Lim

Two stalwarts of the Singapore jazz scene, saxophonist Nicole Duffell and guitarist Andrew Lim, come together in this performance to bring you lesser-known jazz gems, drawing upon the influences of jazz giants like John Coltrane and Bobby Hutcherson.

Nicole Duffell

A graduate of the West Australian Conservatorium of Music, Nicole Duffell spent many years touring with blues and R&B bands in Australia and Europe. After settling in Singapore for 17 years, Duffell now runs one of Singapore's premier Whisky & Jazz bars, B28, where she has been performing almost exclusively for the past eight years. She believes that a place was needed for true artistic expression for Singapore's top jazz artists, so she created a "home" for the authentic jazz genres that don't often get heard outside of New York. The live jazz runs from Wednesdays to Saturdays and Nicole performs at least twice a week with her bands there as well as features other local and international jazz groups.

Andrew Lim

Guitarist Andrew Lim has been an integral part of the jazz scene in Singapore and abroad since 2001. During that time, he has participated in recordings and numerous concert and club performances with musicians from all generations. He also performed at all the top venues in New York for the past seven years before relocating back to Singapore. His reverence to melodies and soulful style have endeared him to audiences throughout the world as well as the musicians he’s worked with.

Lim also features on Singapore jazz pianist Chok Kerong's latest album Tales They Told Me, launching at the Esplanade Recital Studio on 28 Jul 2017.
