Masterworks: Mendelssohn, Baker, Beethoven

From Mendelssohn’s seafaring overture to Beethoven’s romanticising of the countryside, ADDO Chamber Orchestra continues to explore great works from legends of classical music from a chamber orchestra’s perspective, bringing you a sound closer to the composers’ time where only smaller orchestral forces were available to them. Also in their mission to promote 20th/21st century repertoire, the orchestra is privileged to collaborate with double bass artist Li Xu in Michael Baker’s Contours for bass, harpsichord and string orchestra. Li Xu is a professional bassist and conductor currently based in China, previously with Singapore Symphony Orchestra. As a special treat, Li Xu will be sharing the development of the bass and demonstrating on a mini bass, which is so small that it can be played by a four-year-old child. Hosted at the Recital Studio, its cosy and intimate setting allows the orchestra to be closer to you, giving you and your family an opportunity to see the musicians and conductor at close range. Children get a glimpse of musical instruments and how they sound and communicate in the orchestra.
