Debbie Chia broke out of the bedroom when she was invited as Asia’s first participant to the Red Bull Music Academy in Seattle 2005. From disco to tech house and the decades of music in between, Debbie is continuously adding new sounds to her sets as she evolves as a DJ. Her sets traverse from deep to jackin, tech, acid, soul and more, mixing sounds both old and new to represent her current place in time.
Since 2004, Debbie has played in cities such as Seattle (Club Contour), Berlin (Golden Gate), Amsterdam (RBMA Pop-up Radio at ADE’11), South Korea (7th World DJ Festival), Manila (NYE’05), Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, opening for house maestros such as Osunlade, Gene Farris and Master H. In Singapore, she has played in venues such as Velvet Underground, Zouk, Ministry of Sound (Pure), The Vault, Home Club and Blu Jazz. She currently holds a weekly residency at Da Paolo Bistrobar playing funky beats as well as a bi-monthly guest mix on Lush 99.5FM where she explores more varied sets for the radio.
Debbie is also co-owner of record label and events organisation Midnight Shift, plus co-founder of the FFF Girl DJ Bootcamp – an annual all-female DJ school that began in 2008. In 2013, she started [RE]2 with fellow DJ Angela Flame to experiment with conscious music.
Scored the JUICE DJ Quest Champion in 2008, EJ meddles diligently with bar grooves, house and techno. Above all, EJ prides herself in having the belief that you can always buy skill but not taste.
Also hailed as the BEST NEW DJ 2008 by Juice Singapore, she's considered to be one of the scene’s fastest player to secure dj slots in the most reputable music venues in Singapore within the first year of her entrance into the scene, leading to gigs in Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Bangkok & Colombo. 2010 sees her being recognised as one of the Top 10 DJs who has shaped Singapore’s electronic dance music landscape by I-S Mag.
Currently, when not wearing a marketer hat for kyo as well as curating the MODAL nights, EJ who's warmed up for Sebastien Léger (FR), Rødhåd (GER), Paul Woolford (UK) Francois K (FR) Move D (GER) & Aldrin (SG), can be found serving beats and bass in both established bars and clubs in Singapore and it's region, aiming always at the non-commercially pampered ears.
