Music and Makan x 1880 - The Eccentrics

Music and Makan is thrilled to collaborate with members club 1880 to bring you "The Eccentrics", featuring a string quartet comprising four of Singapore's best classical musicians - Yang Shuxiang, David Loke, Martin Peh and Leslie Tan. 

Inspired by 1880's vision - a salon for creators and explorers to meet, a place for diverse minds to gather in conversation to create great ideas, we curated a programme that celebrates the weird and the wonderful - eccentric composers who pushed the boundaries in their own unique ways, ranging from medieval through the classical canon to jazz. The quartet will perform beautiful and complex works by Giacomo Puccini, Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky, alongside an original composition by Singaporean musician David Loke, one of the performers of the evening. In line with the club's support of female empowerment, the string quartet will also perform a selection of pieces by Hildegard von Bingen, a German abbess, mystic and polymath.

The programme will be paired with delicious canapés inspired by the works, brought to you by 1880's Executive Chef Colin Buchan, (one-time private chef to Posh and Becks, alongside a slew of accomplishments including stints at Michelin-starred kitchens such as Marco Pierre White’s L’Escargot and Andrew Fairlie’s One Devonshire Gardens).
