Presented by Kilo Lounge and resident DJ Maurice Simon, Re:fuge is a party dedicated to showcasing the very best of House and Techno with a soul. It is a party that has no agenda, that believes in people and in music and stands for a sense of community. It is a party that respects the dance floor because the dance floor never lies.

For the 8th edition of Re:fuge this Boxing Day, Maurice is joined by special guest Kaye, Co-Founder of Singapore’s Darker Than Wax label for his debut DJ set at Kilo.

Resident DJ of the monthly Re:fuge House and Techno series at Kilo Singapore, Maurice's musical journey began with a discovery of the nu-jazz and broken beat genres pioneered by Jazzanova, Trüby Trio and 4 Hero. He later ventured into the deep house and techno spectrum, inspired by time spent as a promoter for Ben Watt's iconic London-based Buzzin' Fly Records, and early releases put out by German labels Compost Records, Sonar Kollektiv and Dixon & Âme's Innervisions. The hallmark sound of his rhythmic DJ sets is now rooted firmly in the very core elements of house, soul and techno, blending diverse genres and varying tempos with a warm, harmonic mixing style touched with overlapping melodies, basslines and syncopated drum patterns. His versatility has seen him booked to perform alongside a diverse selection of international house music heavy-weights, including Dave Seaman, Sei A, Rainer Trüby and Till Von Sein.

A presence on the DJ circuit in Singapore since 2008 and a Heineken Green Room Music Ambassador, Maurice has performed at top venues across South-East Asia including Woo Bar at W Hotel and Jenja (Bali), Pisco Bar and Under9 (Kuala Lumpur) as well at Singapore’s ZoukOut Festival.

◊ Kaye (Darker Than Wax / SG) ◊

Kevin Guoh aka Kaye is arguably one of Singapore’s most versatile and ever evolving musicians. Over the decades, he has morphed across the performance spectrum from bands to DJing to live sets with computers involving anything, and blending everything from his trusty saxophone, to the EWI, vocoder, midi controllers, drum machines, analog synths and more. His love for music technology is responsible for his ever evolving setup, and all this is deeply entrenched in a wide range of musical genres. From deep and acid laden house and techno, to funk and hip hop wrapped in electro boogie vibes, all seasoned in the roots of jazz and soul. His experience in the underground has not gone unnoticed in slightly more mainstream mediums, and this has led him to being booked by high end fashion houses for their parties – from Louis Vuitton to Gucci, Chanel to Christian Dior and beyond – and international events such as Beijing Olympics (2008), Singapore Grand Prix, Zoukout, and the Volvo Ocean Race.
