The FUNtastic SAM Art Week Party

Spreading the festivities over the SAM and SAM at 8Q grounds, Singapore Art Museum (SAM) celebrates Singapore Art Week with live music sessions, shops and a street picnic at 8Q, Singapore Art Museum, and extended opening hours to our exhibitions!

6pm—late: Street Picnic and live music performances | SAM at 8Q

Let's pretend we're among green pastures instead of a concrete jungle - grab a picnic basket at just $40 (it feeds two).

Catch fresh new local artistes like BECKA, LEW, Theodora, Shak'thiya Subramaniamm and DJ Dodgy Yamamoto featuring percussionist Kevin Sam helming the decks!

From 7pm: Social experiments, dance sessions and DJ sets | SAM Glass Hall & Courtyards

Think of it as a disco Simon Says - where you get to tell everyone how to dance. Make new friends at the bar in a secret social experiment (we won't tell you details, you'll find out on the day) or at our 'social zones' (again - just come with an open mind and be prepared to let go of your inhibitions) ✌

Guided Exhibition Tours:
►Japanese | Singapore Biennale 2016 | 10.30am | SAM
►English | Singapore Biennale 2016 | 11am, 2pm & 7pm | SAM
►Mandarin | Singapore Biennale 2016 | 7.30pm | SAM

Art Performances:
►'Behind the Light' by Singapore Biennale 2016 artist Melati Suryodarmo | 2—8pm | SAM, Level 1

A durational performance and installation that proposes an exchange between the two sides of a mirror, illuminating the relationships between self, surface, society and the spiritual world. Suryodarmo is known for her highly physical, time-based performances in which she uses her body as a theatrical canvas.

►'Koboi Balik Lagi (The 'Koboi' Returns Again)' by Singapore Biennale artist Niranjan Rajah | 6—6.30pm | L4, SAM at 8Q

The third and last element in Rajah's installation is a series of performances in which the artist (or his accomplice) peels, slices and serves a mango to the audience, while recounting the Hindu myth about Ganesha winning a mango by circling around his parents. In his work, Rajah often explores personal and family narratives, as well as the cultural, political and social landscapes of Malaysia.
