The Pedra Branca EP Launch @ GEM BAR

The first stop of The Pedra Branca EP brings Malaysian Punk-Folk Singer and Singaporean Doom Folk artist Hell Low together with folk outfit The Cotton Field Scarecrowes and waifish songstress Anise (Suhui Hee) to the hustle and bustle of Ann Siang Hill for the official launch of The Pedra Branca EP. The Pedra Branca EP is a collaborative effort between Malaysian folk punk singer-songwriter Azmyl (Azmyl Yunor and the Sigarettes, Ben's Bitches, The Maharajah Commission, Ciplak, Roarm) and Singaporean doom folk artist Hell Low. The EP stands out a beacon for understanding of commonalities between the cross straits neighbors. Each song a carefully crafted tribute to love, loss and living in their respective countries. It also acknowledges the tensions that exist between borders as different yet similar cultures and ideals clash and coalesce. In the end it is an EP about hope. Hope for the future of both our countries as politics up north take on a distinctively non-secular slant and those down south move on from a one party system of governance. The launch is going to be an cosy affair with each artist bearing their souls in intimate sets. The evening will begin with Anise as she blends ambient noise with subtle musical texture. The Cotton Field Scarecrowes will then take the stage with their folk style musings. Azmyl Yunor will then excite the audience with his brand of manic alt-country-fried-punk-folk. Before Hell Low rounds off the night with his somber apocalyptic doom folk songs. * Pedra Branca is an outlying Singaporean island and also the easternmost point of Singapore that was a subject of a territorial dispute between Malaysia and Singapore that was finally settled by the International Court of Justice ruling in 2008.
