The Sofrito label covers everything from Nigerian acid boogie to raw Gwo Ka rhythms, futuristic sounds from new European producers and heavy Latin vibes from the Pacific coast of Colombia. London-born, Paris-based Hugo Mendez is one of the leading Tropical DJ’s in Europe and the A&R behind the renowned SOFRITO label. He has traveled extensively in order to produce groundbreaking compilations for labels such as Strut, Soundway, Jazzman and Nascente and DJs regularly across Europe. Bringing together a deep musical knowledge and extensive travels with a sharp ear for dancefloor-rocking tunes, his DJ sets draw on everything from vintage bassline Soukous to dubplate edits of Caribbean Cadence and boogie, passing by DIY electro and forward looking Tropical sounds to create a unique balance of hypnotic and percussive rhythms.
