2013 was a great year for music in Singapore but we're really looking forward to 2014's slew of festivals, star studded concerts and more! Just take a look at these top picks that are happening within the first quarter of the year. From indie, pop, and rock - there's gonna be something for everyone. Which ones are you going to?
Phoenix, Jan 15
The first exciting show to look out for in 2014 is Phoenix live at The Star Theatre, thanks to Now/Live. Their breakthrough fourth album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix may have been released in 2009 but we sure haven't forgotten them. The most recent and experimental album 'Bankrupt!' kicked off with a bang and they displayed their experimental side by playing around with some K-pop synth melodies and extravagant music videos. We can't imagine watching them live!

Laneway Festival, Jan 25
Always THE festival to look out for, for indie music lovers here, Laneway Festival Singapore boasts an impressive lineup for 2014. Buzz bands, a couple of electronic acts, psychedelic chill, the exclusive inclusion of James Blake... and also new this year, three local acts! It's great to see a festival that originally progressed from an actual laneway in Melbourne develop into so much more.
Avril Lavigne, Feb 15
Nothing complicated about this gig, it's the princess of our favourite high-school-listening-tunes! It's a little strange to realise how her music still touches on the same topics even after these years. Regardless, thanks to Midas Promotions, you can geek out on nostalgia and guilty pleasures if you please. Or enjoy this show for real.
Hostess Club Weekender, Feb 22
A top class lineup, Hostess Club Weekender curated by the Hostess Asia has got us very excited about next year. The National returns to Singapore this time with the talented King Krule, cinematic Mogwai, Iceland's 'Bon Iver' Asgeir and folk experimental duo Buke and Gase. Also, it's nice to return to Fort Canning for festivals, it has been a while!
And So I Watch You Afar, Feb 28
Putting aside their skills in the studio, this Irish quartet has been making big waves worldwide on the road. Their live shows have been known to be especially frenetic and brimming of energy, captivating fans as far as the US and China. We’re insanely happy that they’re finally making their way down here, thanks to Kitty Wu Records.Singapore Rock Festival, March 5
Four of the hardest and heaviest rock bands join forces for one night to put up an amazing and electrifying quadruple bill, thanks to LAMC Productions. Long time hard rock heavyweights Rob Zombie and Korn will be joined by Black Veil Brides and Five Finger Punch for one night only.
Mosaic Music Festival, Mar 7-16
Bruno Mars, Mar 26
The final exciting show for the first quarter of 2014 is the much anticipated arrival of Bruno Mars. Seems like almost every one of his hits has made it to our consciousness in some way or another so his first concert here would most probably be one of the biggest events of 2014. Get your dancing shoes out, we're going out!
