Singtel gave their clients in Singapore a real treat last Friday (13 January 2023): they got to meet American singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin—or at least their avatars did at Destination: ifland, the first metaverse event hosted by Asia's leading communications technology group.

The event was attended by about 130 participants who won a contest that ran on Singtel's social media channels in December. During the event, the said participants created their own custom avatars which they used to "enter" the exclusive Singtel x ifland room. There they meet Benjamin, who went on an album tour in the Asia-Pacific region last year

Participants also took photos with Benjamin's avatar via an interactive photo booth, played games using the Pico 4 augmented reality (AR) headsets, and explored other immersive metaverse experiences.

The event demonstrated how Singtel’s 5G network can "support and enable richer and more immersive metaverse experiences for consumers" on the ifland app, which was first launched in July 2021 by SK Telecom (SKT), South Korea's largest telecom operator. It also showcased how ifland, as a metaverse platform, enables users to be interactive and how it can hosts a number of activities, like virtual concerts, celebrity fan meets, and other events. Users can even break out into "rooms" for more interest-exclusive activities.

The ifland app is currently available on Android and iOS in over 49 countries and promises benefits, such as exclusive K-pop fan meets and virtual merchandise, to those who choose to try it out.

Destination: ifland is the first instalment in The Meta Guide, a series of metaverse-themed events Singtel plans to develop with SKT.
