Over a decade after their first collaborative single, Anderson .Paak and DEAN join forces once again to create the smooth and seductive single 'Aftertaste'.
Having first crossed paths back in 2015 for 'Put My Hands On You', 'Aftertaste' creates an even bigger impact on the global music scene as it's featured on the soundtrack of .Paak's directorial debut with K-POPS!. The feature film is set to be available for streaming on Netflix on 30 May.
'Aftertaste' is a suave R&B track that's mixed with thumping club inspired beats to create a cocktail of melody and charm, leaving a sweet and lingering 'Aftertaste' long after your first listen of the track. Produced by Dem Jointz, the track reinforces the sonic power of the pair as they fuse their musical sensibilities.
They create a new flavour of music that combines notes of edgy rhythm and R&B flair. DEAN pipes in with his sweet confessions while .Paak channels his bold energy with outspoken lyrics like, "That bass, that shake, that walk, I’ma need that! / That taste, that waist, that uh, that pretty-*ss face, I’ma need that!”. The music video captures the duo as they channel their unbeatable charm while singing the song with a reinforced boldness.
Beyond 'Aftertaste' K-POPS! also features .Paak's previous collaborative track 'Keychain' with aespa that hit the charts in February. With a splash of aespa's genre defying K-pop centric sound and a sprinkle of the nine-time GRAMMY® Award-winner's signature style rooted in hip-hop, R&B, and funk, the track expands on the horizons of K-POPS!, emphasising its cross cultural spirit inspired by .Paak's very own Black and Korean heritage.
K-POPS! isn't just another film endeavour by a well known artist, it's a love letter to his diverse background. Taking place in a Seoul K-pop competition show, the film explores cross era connection and how heritage and culture can be channeled through music. Not only did .Paak write and direct the film, he also stars in it alongside his son Soul Rasheed.
With 'Aftertaste,' .Paak widens the K-POPS! universe, sticking to the film’s theme of embracing connection and collaboration as he partners with renowned K-pop trailblazer DEAN once again. The track not only reinforces their effortless chemistry but also underscores the project’s cross-cultural vision, blurring genre lines while celebrating the shared language of music across borders.
