Anderson .Paak launches full speed back into his directorial era as he unveils K-POPS! (Music from and inspired by K-POPS! Motion Picture). The record not only compiles the standout tracks featured in the film’s soundtrack, but also serves as a celebration of musical collaboration and cultural exchange through partnerships with international and K-pop artists.
The lineup of artists that claim their spot on each song on the 17 song tracklist bring their own signature style into the record creating a diverse sonic atmosphere that enriches the story of K-POPS!. Featuring some of K-pop's greatest heavyweights including JID, G-DRAGON, aespa, LNGSHOT, NMIXX, DEAN, JO1, CHUNG HA, Alissia, and Kevin Woo of KPop Demon Hunters, along with JOSHUA of SEVENTEEN, HONGJOONG of ATEEZ, and SOYEON of i-dle.
The Rolling Stone comments on the album after an interview with the nine-time Grammy Award-winner sharing, "The album is packed with A-list K-pop guest stars … But it’s also full of .Paak’s own vocals, and thoroughly guided by his lush, retro-leaning sensibility, so it ends up being the closest thing to a .Paak solo album since 2019’s Ventura."
Ahead of the album's release, .Paak unveiled several pre release singles including the anticipated reunion between DEAN and .Paak with the seductive allure of 'Aftertaste'. He also teamed up with aespa blending his funky flair with the futuristic charm to create 'Keychain'. Rounding off the singles that teased the album he dropped an iconic collaboration with none other than G-DRAGON who brought his confident swagger through his verses on 'Too Bad'.
He also teams up with NMIXX for the edgy and dangerous hip-hop track 'Caution.' The song oozes with the groovy flair that Anderson .Paak brings to each track, pairing thumping bass beats with a haunting melody that lingers long after the first listen. Tying seamlessly into the accompanying music video, which unfolds like a gripping crime thriller, the lyrics declare, “Bring me the yellow tape (Who me?), ’boutta catch a case (Ah), no need to investigate (Ah), they already know.”
Beyond just joining forces with K-pop artists, .Paak also features a select few international artists such as Corbyn Besson who brings his amazing pop sensibilities to 'One More Dance' that also features JOSHUA of the beloved K-pop group SEVENTEEN. Alissia makes an appearance on the energetic track 'Can’t Get Enough' while JID spits hard-hitting verses on 'What About Us'.
Each of the tracks weave perfectly into the narrative of K-POPS!, which follows the journey of a father and son played by .Paak and his real-life son Soul Rasheed as they explore the generational connection and cultural exchange amidst a Seoul-based K-pop competition show.
