Andrew Litton to conduct SSO's Jazz It Up with Gershwin concert

The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has a night of symphony orchestral magic planned for August.

SSO Pops Concert: Jazz It Up With Gershwin is set to take place on Friday, 17 August. Jazz It Up With Gershwin will see SSO and Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton share the stage as they celebrate the work of two highly influential 20th century composers – Gershwin and Shostakovich.

Litton will be serving as both a pianist and conductor simultaneously on the night, as he merges both composers' distinct styles. Litton, besides being the SSO's Principle Guest Conductor, is the Director of the acclaimed New York City Ballet and Artistic Director of Minnesota Orchesta's Sommerfest, among other titles. With over 130 recordings to his name, Litton has been awarded several prestigious awards, such as the Grammys and France's Diapason d'Or.

The programming for the night will feature Shostakovich's Suite For Jazz Orchestra No. 1, and Suite for Variety Orchestra No. 1 as well as excerpts from Gershwin's Songbook.
