Three years after the release of his critically adored album Stranger to my room on Kitchen. Label, award-winning composer and pianist sonicbrat (real name Darren Ng) is finally ready to unveil his long-awaited follow-up work entitled MURMURATIONS.
Also set to be released via the Japanese-Singaporean publishing house, the new record (pre-order here) will be available to the public on 24th November through CD and digital formats. As a special bonus, the physical CD edition also comes in a customized die-cut case (20 x 14 x 1 cm) and includes one bonus download track.
As described by Kitchen. Label, the album features a "series of intimate and introspective compositions recorded entirely on the acoustic piano, employing various miking techniques to extract innate mechanical sounds, wood tensions, natural vibrations on piano soundboard and strings, and using them as the only source of the compositions’ sonic palette".
sonicbrat has obviously gone to great lengths to make sure that his newest LP sounds as pristine as possible, and we're certainly looking forward to soaking it all in soon enough.
Inspired by "the natural phenomenon of migratory birds to reflect on one’s own displacing nature in life and estrangement from nature itself", MURMURATIONS conjures up the fantastical journey of a fictional starling soaring through "fabricated landscapes as it inevitably transit in the passage of time".
And if that doesn't sound lovely enough, this gorgeous album sampler below should win you over.
