Bandwagon Mix #39: Zul (Subvert HQ)

Bandwagon Mix #39: Zul (Subvert HQ)

Every week, Bandwagon invites a guest to do a mix for us. Rather than a standard interview where the artist explains their influences, we figured it’d be more potent if you simply listened to the music.

We provide the context, they provide the sounds.

For those too young to remember, Zul has been a cornerstone of Singapore's drum & bass scene since the 1990s. His early Subvert nights at Mad Monk's have become the stuff of legend, while his memorable stints playing alongside the likes of Goldie, Joe Syntax, dBridge, DJ Friction, and Stamina MC (among many others) have made him one too. From Hong Kong to Jakarta to London (where he was invited to play Hospitality's esteemed parties in Shoreditch) back to Singapore, the Take Off Records signee is highly regarded as one of Singapore's stalwart 170bpm generals. Even after a couple of decades in the game, the veteran DJ (and full-time journalist) still remains remarkably active in clubs and online, regularly releasing mixes via his own Subvert Sessions platform and on national radio. For this week's Bandwagon Mix, we special ordered a deep and immersive junglist dream from the Subvert HQ bossman himself.
