Makara have shared a new live session for KEXP, marking a major moment for the Bangkok-based psychedelic molam trio as they bring their sound to a wider international audience.

Performed by Q on vocals and guitar, Max on drums, and Of on bass, the session sees the band riff through four tracks: local favourites ‘COCO’ and ‘Strawberry Mind’, alongside new songs ‘Samare’ and ‘Yong Song’.

Blending Thai musical sensibilities with modern indie rock, the set captures the band’s evolving sound while staying rooted in their cultural influences. ‘Yong Song’ reinterprets a classic Thai riff through a melodic and atmospheric lens, while ‘COCO’ leans into a hypnotic modern molam groove. Elsewhere, ‘Samare’ unfolds like a hazy late-night drinking session, and ‘Strawberry Mind’ takes listeners on a psychedelic trip down the Chao Phraya River.

Known for spotlighting emerging artists from around the world, KEXP’s latest session with Makara places the trio alongside a growing wave of Southeast Asian acts pushing local sounds onto the global stage.
