A familiar fixture in Holland Village’s nightlife scene is calling time. Wala Wala Café Bar, a two-storey venue on Lorong Mambong, is planning to exit its lease early, with plans to close before the end of the year.

As reported by the Business Times, owner Stanley Yeo shared that Wala Wala’s current lease for the 1,700 sq ft ground-floor unit ends in December, but he’s seeking to hand over the space ahead of that deadline. No specific closure date has been confirmed yet.

Wala Wala opened in 1993 and has since served generations of patrons as a neighbourhood bar with hearty food, draft beers, and a buzzy weekend crowd. In its earlier years, it also became known for hosting live music on its second floor — a role it played in Singapore’s bar gig circuit — though in recent times, the spotlight has shifted back to its F&B operations.

Its impending closure comes amid broader pressures in Singapore’s F&B sector, with rising rents and shifting tenant expectations posing challenges for independent operators. As noted by the Business Times, Wala Wala is one of several long-standing establishments rethinking their future in a changing urban landscape.

Regulars can still visit while the bar remains open — a final stretch for drinks, bites, and memories in a space that has stood for over three decades. Updates on the official closing date and any final events are expected to follow soon.
