Amidst a monumental year for BIGBANG as they have their exciting 20th anniversary tour just on the horizon, TAEYANG sets another milestone in his solo artistry, releasing his album QUINTESSENCE, as it becomes his first album in nine years since 2017's White Night.
Marking his fourth album release ever, the K-pop superstar held an exclusive listening party at the Cube Convention Center to celebrate the drop of the album. Coinciding with his birthday, the release was more of a present to fans, thanking them for their renewed support for his solo projects and group endeavours alike. TAEYANG shared more about the process behind the album during the listening party as he states, "I haven’t had a single day off since the Coachella stage, but I’m more excited than anxious. I’m glad I can give fans something good on my birthday.”
The 10-track album retains that signature smooth charm that fans know and love TAEYANG for. The album represents TAEYANG as he draws on his raw, authentic persona to depict nothing but the QUINTESSENCE of his artistry. The record is a reflective archive of moments that have shaped his career thus far, with each track contributing a reflection to the collage of memories that his journey has given him. He shares those memories with fans through the vulnerable and introspective soundscape he has created.

TAEYANG shares more about what this project means to him as he muses, "This year marks the 20th anniversary of my debut, and when I started working on a new album, I focused on what is most ‘me’ yet new. Having created and performed many songs over 20 years, challenging newness itself is difficult. Still, I pondered what new thing I could do at this stage. These contemplations and attempts are deeply reflected in this album."
In the spirit of reinvention, the title track 'LIVE FAST DIE SLOW' pivots from his usual R&B sensibilities as he embraces an energetic vibe for this track. He captures the determination and primal passion to continue forging his own path despite the hurdles and obstacles that he may encounter on his path. The lyrics reinforce this sentiment as they repeat the line "I want it, want it all" depicting the fire he has displayed throughout his 20-year career as one of K-pop's most beloved idols.
The record sees TAEYANG embrace the spirit of collaboration as the tracklist boasts songs that see him team up with some of this generation's most notable artists. On the hip-hop and R&B banger 'WOULD YOU', he features ALLDAY PROJECT's TARZZAN and WOOCHAN. Not only does TAEYANG partner with regional artists, he demonstrates his expansive influence within the industry as he fuses Western and K-pop influences with The Kid LAROI on 'OPEN UP'.
TAEYANG opens up about the production process and working with the amazing artists that this album features as he shares, "I worked with producers active overseas, and Paul Blanco was the most enthusiastic about collaborating with me among the list provided by the company. When we started creating music together, we connected on many levels. Tablo participated in writing lyrics for three songs. Many people helped with this album. When ALLDAY PROJECT debuted, I felt like seeing our younger selves. I thought their freshness and debut atmosphere would fit well. They completed the songs diligently and significantly enhanced the quality."
With this album, TAEYANG not only came up with lyrics and melodies to create a record that would break the charts, but he dug deeper and reflected on a legendary career that only keeps going. As fans roar with support no matter how many decades have passed, he continues his journey as both an extremely successful solo artist and alongside BIGBANG as they commemorate their 20th anniversary with their world tour this August.
With QUINTESSENCE, TAEYANG reflects on two decades of artistry while confidently stepping into a renewed chapter of his career. Blending introspection, reinvention, and collaboration, the album captures both the legacy he has built and the passion that continues to drive him forward, proving that even after 20 years in the spotlight, TAEYANG’s artistry still burns with the same intensity and ambition that first made him a K-pop icon.
