JENNIE is ushering in a softer side of her artistry with the release of her new single, 'Less than a Lover', out now via ODDATELIER/Columbia Records.
Serving as an ode to summer, the alternative-pop track captures the lingering emotions of a relationship that exists somewhere between friendship and romance. Written by JENNIE herself, 'Less than a Lover' pairs lo-fi guitar textures and vintage electric keyboards with intimate vocals as she reflects on the excitement and uncertainty of an undefined connection.
The accompanying music video, based on a story by JENNIE, follows the BLACKPINK star as she steps into another version of herself while filming a short movie with friends. As the fictional romance unfolds on set, the lines between performance and reality begin to blur, reshaping the dynamic between the characters.
The singer first previewed 'Less than a Lover' during her headline performance at Governors Ball in June, before bringing the track to festival audiences at Mad Cool, Open'er and Roskilde. Next, she is set to headline Lollapalooza Chicago before making her debut at Summer Sonic in Japan.
As one of pop's defining global stars, JENNIE continues to expand her artistic range through music, performance and creative storytelling. With 'Less than a Lover', she leans into a more understated sonic palette while exploring the complexities of connections that don't fit neatly into labels.
