After more than two decades together, BoA and SM Entertainment have officially parted ways.
SM Entertainment announced on 12 January that BoA’s exclusive contract with the company concluded on 31 December, following thorough discussions between both parties. In its statement, SM praised BoA as a defining icon who helped spread the Korean Wave across Asia following her debut in 2000, acknowledging her long-standing impact and achievements throughout her career.

BoA later addressed fans through a heartfelt message, sharing that she leaves the company without regrets and expressing her continued support for SM Entertainment moving forward. She also shared a nostalgic video titled You still our No.1 BoA showcasing deep respect and gratitude reflecting on her journey and reaffirming her enduring status as an icon.
The announcement was met with an outpouring of support from fellow artists, including Taeyong of NCT, who was among those leaving messages of encouragement in the comments as he shared, “Well done for your hard work.” The amicable nature of the split underscored the mutual respect between BoA and the company she helped shape over the years.
