Sony Music has acquired Bob Dylan’s entire recording catalog of music including classic albums such as 1963’s The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan and 1965’s Bringing It All Back Home, on top of the rights to future releases.
While the financial terms of the deal were undisclosed, Billboard has estimated that the master recording rights may well be worth $200 million.
This transaction was made in July last year, about seven months after he made a separate deal with Universal Music for his songwriting copyrights in 2020.
Dylan, who was first signed to Columbia Records (owned by Sony) back in 1961, made the following statement: “Columbia Records and Rob Stringer have been nothing but good to me for many, many years and a whole lot of records… I’m glad that all my recordings can stay where they belong.”
Sony Music has also purchased the catalogs of other notable artists including Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon, among others.
Bob Dylan will be embarking on a tour in support of his 39th studio album Rough and Rowdy Ways.
The American singer-songwriter has recently announced his spring U.S. tour dates which will go on sale on 28 January—tickets will be available for purchase from his official website.
Rough and Rowdy Ways is available for streaming on Spotify.
