BTS' Jungkook is celebrating his birthday on the first of September and fans across the globe are commemorating his special day in many different ways.
In the Philippines, a group who fondly call themselves BFM JUNGKOOKIES, held a blood donation drive last 26 August 2023. The Blood Letting Drive garnered 169 successful donors after proper screening. 338 fans registered online, with 208 participating on the day itself.
The group first thought about partnering with the Red Cross for a blood donation drive in 2022. Describing themselves as a "collective of young-at-heart adults from various places, varying ages and careers who stan BTS with a special love for the golden maknae Jeon Jungkook," they wanted to spearhead an impactful and meaningful project in honour of their BTS bias.
"There's a high demand for blood and blood products during the rainy season because of dengue fever and other medical conditions. Since we had a very good turnout, the Philippine Red Cross and our group expressed the intention of doing this yearly, if possible," the group shared when asked why they chose a blood donation drive to celebrate Jungkook's birthday.
With the project now in its second year, the group aims to continue to "create awareness of the need and demand for blood and blood products" in the country. With numerous healthcare professionals as their members, they also make sure that they enforce the proper and safe way to hold a blood drive, in line with the standard guidelines provided by the Philippine Red Cross.
